Comparison of the 3590 Tape Drive Series

The 3590 tape drive series are designed for tape libraries and are handling some of the most demanding applications. 3590 tapes differ from other in the fact that they include an Automatic Path Support allowing for dynamic load balancing and automatic failover. The most used tape drives in the 3500 series are the 3590-E11, 3590-E1A, 3590H11, and the 3590H1A

3590-E11: 14MB/sec

The 3590-E11 and 3590H11 are rack mounted with a 10 cartridge Automatic Cartridge Facility with total access of up to 1.8 terabytes of compressed data. The 3590-E11 and the 3591-H11 are a step up in reliability from the 3400 series because of features like the Error Correction Code (ECC) and advanced diagnostics designed to monitor the drive operation. 

The 3590-E1A and 3590H1A are designed for automated tape libraries such as StorageTek Silos, the IBM TotalStorage Virtual Tape Server, and the IBM Total Storage Enterprise Automated Tape Library 3494.
