The IBM 3584 Tape Library – TS3500 Tape Library

In May of 2006, the IBM tape library was renamed the TS3500. You’ll still find this storage solution under the title IBM LTO UltraScalable 3584 Tape Library. The 3584 tape library is designed for large and medium backup solutions and automated tape storage. The 3584 tape library attaches to both Open Systems hosts and zSeries. 

3584 tape library highlights

· The optional 2nd library assessor of the 3584 tape library is designed to increase availability, performance, and reliability.
· The 3584 tape library is designed for IBM Virtual Tape Server, IBM System z9™, and open systems environments.
· Uses the 3588 LTO Ultrium 3 technology for greater capacity and throughput.
· The 3584 tape library uses Write Once Read Many (WORM) data cartridges.

Compared to older IBM models, the 3584 tape library offers reduced floor space, providing high density storage in a compact package. To protect your investment, the 3584 tape library supports IBM 3592, LTO Ultrium 1 and LTO Ultrium 2 tape drives. 

Hardware Summary of the 3584 tape library

· Up to 15 expansion frames for one base frame
· Houses up to 12 drives per frame, a total of 192 tape drives per library or 6200 cartridges
· LTO Fibre Channel interface for server attachment
· Up to 32 I/O slots or 19 I/O slots standard

3584 tape library native capacity

· Up to 2,755 terabytes with IBM Ultrium 3 cartridges
· Up to 3,130 terabytes with 3592 cartridges
