Breece Hill Technology's Q4.30/50 mid-range DLT tape library
provides outstanding value with features normally reserved for enterprise class
products. Housing 1 to 4 drives and 30 or 50 cartridges, data capacity reaches 4
TB and sustained transfer rates hit 173 GB/hr*. Flexible connectivity offers
powerful and innovative methods for attaching to any major operating system as
well as to SAN environments. Available DataIQ™ Network Interface facilitates
network monitoring and control. Independence in tape technology provides
scalable tape storage solutions.
Product Highlights
Scalability
It's tough to predict how fast your data will grow. That's why we designed
scalability into the Q4.30/50. You can invest in the library, initially
configured with just 30 cartridge cells. And as your data storage needs grow,
the library expands to 50 with a simple upgrade kit. Scaling up is easy and can
be performed in the field in a matter of minutes.
Universal Load Plate Design
One of many key features in Breece Hill's engineering design is the patented
universal load plate on which tape drives are mounted. This allows you to use
drives them not only in your Q4.30/50, but in any other Breece Hill library as
well by swapping them between libraries in the field.
Drive Independent
Even more important though, Breece Hill's patented universal load plate design
allows the library to be drive independent. This means it can support different
linear tape drive technologies in the same library. Now you can combine DLT and
LTO in the same unit, and seamlessly migrate to new or different linear
technologies as your backup needs change.
Embedded Intelligence
Embedded intelligence distinguishes Breece Hill's libraries. The company's
patented robotic positioning system consisting of a "learning
algorithm" automatically and continuously re-calibrates to compensate for
any changes in the library's physical environment. The robot can sense changes
in the physical environment and then adjust for those changes, significantly
reducing downtime and lowering overall service costs. The library barcode reader
generates faster inventory times than other comparable products. Moreover,
extensive recovery routines are enabled in a power-out situation. The library
not only remembers what it was doing, but completes the action when power is
restored, significantly reducing downtime and service costs.
Enterprise Functionality in a Midrange Product
Engineered for remote, centralized network connectivity, the 4.30/50 library
offers optional DataIQ™ Network Interface. This feature is the library's
network attach architecture built on open standards. A single board computer
installed in the options bay and a custom Java applet called Itelaä facilitates
network monitoring and control via the web, email alerts, or simple network
management protocol (SNMP).
Sophisticated Remote Library Management with Data IQ™
Network Interface
From a single computer, you can configure the library, check its status, run
diagnostics, operate the library or perform log activities. If you are offsite,
just point your web browser to the library's Internet address and manage the
library from anywhere in the world. Such efficient control functionality
decreases the cost of operation and ultimately decreases the total cost of
ownership.
DataIQ™ Network Interface benefits users in a number of
ways: increased efficiency among IS personnel, flexible methods of library
monitoring and control, software and hardware cost savings, increased library
availability, easy remote management, and highly reliable backup and archival.
SAN Connectivity
With the information explosion, it's important to know that the Q4.30/50
provides universal compatibility with any SAN or NAS architecture. So you can be
prepared to take your company to the next level of sophistication as your
storage goals and priorities change.
Compatibility
Like all Breece Hill libraries, the Q4.30/50 interfaces with any major operating
system including UNIX™, Windows NT™, Novell™ and others. Qualified with
the leading storage management applications, it affords you great choice and
flexibility in your software selection.
