 Overview
The IBM 7207 Model 122 4 GB External SLR5 QIC Tape Drive is an excellent solution if you use Quarter-Inch Cartridge (QIC) tape or require a low-cost, entry-level tape backup solution for  IBM RS/6000* and AS/400* systems. This economical medium-capacity save-and-restore device is a stand-alone streaming linear tape drive that incorporates the most recent Single Channel Linear Recording (SLR5) QIC technology. It is designed to attach to a wide SCSI bus and has two dual-port wide connectors.

The 7207 Model 122 provides a native media capacity of 4 GB per cartridge and a data transfer rate of up to 380 KB/sec. With 2:1 compression, the 7207 Model 122 has a capacity of 8 GB and a data transfer rate of up to 760 KB/sec. The 7207 Model 122 provides more than three times the capacity of the 7207 Model 012 and can reduce the number of tape cartridges you need.

 Investment protection
In addition to reading and writing on 1/4-inch tape cartridges using the QIC 4 GB format, the 7207 Model 122 is read/write backward- compatible with QIC 120/150, 525, 1000, and QIC 2 GB formats. Because of its read/write compatibility with other QIC formats, the 7207 Model 122 can replace the 7207 Model 012 and other externally attached 1/4-inch tape devices. It can also be a more cost-effective replacement for 4 mm tape drives.

 Improved Reliability
The 7207 Model 122 incorporates an internal self-test capability to verify proper operation. The tape media itself is enclosed in a self-contained cartridge to minimize wear and avoid contamination. Because the 7207 Model 122 has no date dependencies, it is Year 2000 Ready.
